A ‘best state for business’ three-peat

Gov. Tim Kaine announced today that Forbes.com has named Virginia the “Best State for Business” for the third year in a row, according to a release issued by his office.
Utah was second, with Washington, North Carolina and Georgia rounding out the top five.

Blockbuster pulls plug on Circuit City buyout

The deal is off, says Blockbuster Inc. This past Tuesday, the movie rental chain announced that it would be withdrawing its $1.3 billion offer to buy Richmond-based Circuit City Stores Inc., the Richmond Times-Dispatch reports.

New laws to take effect

Virginia business owners and individuals alike should pay heed - the majority of the 884 bills signed into law by Gov. Timothy M. Kaine during the last General Assembly session went into effect today.
