Virginia-based title insurer LandAmerica will be out of business by the end of the year.

Richmond-based Circuit City Stores said today it was unable to find a buyer for its business. Instead, Circuit City plans to sell all the merchandise from its stores. The plan is being presented to the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Richmond today, according to the Richmond Times-Dispatch.

Grocer loses $16 million verdict

The Supreme Court of Virginia today took away a substantial jury verdict in favor of a Richmond grocer who claimed his local business was undermined by a regional grocery supply company. The court held that Johnny Johnson’s evidence was insufficient to sustain verdicts on constructive fraud and intentional infliction of emotional distress.

Roanoke child care company files for bankruptcy

A Roanoke-based child care agency has closed three of its seven locations and filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganization. The Roanoke Times notes that Little People Learning Center Inc. lists assets of about $184,000 and debts of $1.5 million.
